THERE'S A FINE LINE BETWEEN BRILLIANCE AND INSANITY
What divides the two, of course, is the outcome.
What Kineticom's founders did in the post-9/11 economic downturn could easily
have gone into the "insanity" category. The telecom industry was melting down,
and plummeting demand for technical staff was costing the one-year-old company
the bulk of its burgeoning business as projects were canceled or delayed.
They could have packed it in or laid off staff at that time, but Kineticom's
executives were so passionate about their mission to revolutionize the
technical staffing industry that instead, they slashed their salaries in half
while racking up hundreds of thousands of corporate and credit card debt to
keep the company afloat.
What drove them to these lengths was a core belief that as long as there is
business, there will be a market for top talent. Instead of fleeing the talent
industry, Kineticom took advantage of massive downsizing to find talented
people, then worked hard to connect these people with available jobs. While
staffing firms were in hibernation, Kineticom was networking like it was 1999.
The investment paid off. When the chill over corporate America thawed, the
talent and contacts Kineticom had cultivated put the company in a great
position. Kineticom continues to grow because of its focus on talented
individuals and extraordinary client service.
