HIRING BEST PRACTICES

Since it's our own unique mix of talents, processes, and experience that make us the best in the industry, we felt safe sharing some general tips with you about hiring best practices.

Think Strategically

Don't just replace a seat with a seat. Take some time to elevate yourself above the day-to-day fray and identify areas that may be neglected:

  • Are the right people working on the right projects?
  • Are there changes that can be made to shuffle workloads?
  • Who are the leaders and are they in the correct organizational place to have positive impact?
  • What's missing? What do we have in excess?
  • What work do we expect to come our way in the next 1-2 years and how best do we handle it?

Identify

Once you've identified where you are going and what skills/experience/talent you have to work with, think about what you need to synch these two pieces up. Clearly identify for yourself :

  • What kind of background does this candidate need to have? Education? Work experience? Specific skills?
  • What kind of person will accentuate and embrace your corporate culture and not be hamstrung by it? Does your culture need to change?
  • How much can you compensate this person and is it competitive? How do you know?
  • Where is the best place to find the person I need? Is this person someone who is a passive job seeker or one who may be actively looking and seeking what I have to offer? (Tip: don't discount the passive job seeker just because they may be harder to find initially!)
  • What are the reasons I work here? Why would I hire in to this position? What growth opportunities or career path does this job provide?
